On The Train Remix Ep

Daniel Steinberg has always shied away from press attention, instead preferring to craft his music shrouded from ego and hype. His productions are in favour with the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Claude Vonstroke and Richie Hawtin and he is very much an unsung hero of the scene. Following on from his debut album ‘Shut Up!’ is the On The Train remix EP, featuring three topnotch reworks of tracks from ‘Shut Up!’. On the A-side, the light-hearted, humorous vocals of “On The Train” make way for a thunderous minimal groove, courtesy of techno don Derrick Carter. The soulful hook jitters its way through snippets of funky percussion and a loopy bassline. M.in brings out a darker, twisted side of Steinberg’s locomotive sounds on the B-side rework of the same tune, blasting away steam, whistles and a foreboding rumble that speeds its way through unexpected tunnels. The remixes are accompanied by a Dub version of ‘Atencion’, which bounces along gently to its jazzy, wistful piano chords. This release highlight Steinberg’s unmistakable talent for combining heavy-hitting dancefloor sensibilities with playful charm. So pay attention to Daniel - and don’t miss the train.
